CBC of ICMAB organise CPD programme

The Chattogram Branch Council (CBC) of ICMAB successfully organised a CPD program titled “Corporate Governance of Banks and Stability of Financial Markets: Reform Agenda” on Friday.

The event was held at the CMA Bhaban Auditorium, Agrabad, Chattogram, according to a press release.

Pradip Paul FCA, FCMA, chairman of the CBC of ICMAB, presided over the program and delivered a warm welcome address.

Sobhit Bikash Barua FCMA, chairman of the CPD, Training & Workshop Committee, CBC, introduced the distinguished guests in attendance.

The event was graced by Professor Dr Md Sadiqul Islam FCMA, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Social Islami Bank PLC and Professor in the Department of Finance at the University of Dhaka, who served as the Chief Guest and Session Chairman.

In his remarks, Dr Islam emphasised the critical role of corporate governance in ensuring the stability of financial markets, particularly in the evolving economic landscape of Bangladesh. He expanded upon key points from the resource person’s presentation, offering further insights and outlining a comprehensive reform agenda.

Dr Islam expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to such an important discussion and commended the CBC for organizing this significant event.

Dr Syed Abdulla Al Mamun FCMA, Council Member of ICMAB, served as the resource person and presented a detailed paper on the topic.

His presentation provided an in-depth analysis of the reforms needed to strengthen corporate governance in banks and the broader financial sector. Dr Mamun highlighted that these reforms are vital for maintaining investor confidence and ensuring financial stability.

His paper covered several key topics, including an overview of the Bangladeshi economy and banking sector, the current state of the financial market, corporate governance practices in banks, and a proposed reform agenda to reinforce governance frameworks.

The program was well-attended, with a large number of ICMAB members from Chattogram and senior students from the Chattogram Branch actively participating in the discussions and the question-and-answer session.

The event was expertly moderated by Md Rakibul Islam Mayshan FCMA, secretary of CBC[1]ICMAB. The vote of thanks was delivered by Md Rizwan Hassan FCMA, treasurer of CBC[1]ICMAB, who expressed gratitude to all participants and speakers for their valuable contributions.
