Production of the two factories remained suspended for an hour as the workers of two garment factories inside Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) demonstrated demanding to adjust their salary as per the government wage structure.

Witnesses said the workers of Pacific Jeans Limited and Jay Jay Mills Private Limited took to the street in the morning demanding Tk 12,500 minimum salary.

Kamal Uddin, a protester, said the authorities concerned did not provide the salary fixed by the government and the freshers are availing the government fixed salary as a result, the old workers are getting less than the freshers.

Later, the workers joined their work when the Managing Director of Pacific Group assured them of increasing Tk 4,000 to their salary.

Selim Newaz, assistant superintendent of Industrial Police, Chattogram, said the situation is under control.
