Chances of rainfall at the end of week

A ray of hope shines for the people suffering amid blistering heat as the Met Office on Tuesday forecast rainfall and thundershowers at the end of the week.

While it usually rains during this time of the year, a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over the country, bringing people to their knees for a drop of rain.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded a temperature of 39.5 degree Celsius in Dhaka on Monday, the highest the capital experienced in the last 26 years.

But the temperature has finally started to come down, according to meteorologist Abdul Momen.

“Today’s temperature is slightly less than the previous day’s and it will drop a little more tomorrow,” he told The Business Post.

“There is a possibility of rainfall or thunderstorm in several parts of the country including Dhaka,” he added.

According to a regular bulletin by the Met Office commencing 6:00 pm Tuesday, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Dhaka divisions and Cumilla and Kushtia regions.

The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country. There is another forecast of rain or hailstorm after three days.

The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 39.4 degree Celsius and the minimum was 27.4 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in the country on Monday was recorded 39.8 degree Celsius at Jashore and Tuesday’s minimum temperature, 21.6 degree Celsius, was recorded at Tetulia.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, reads the bulletin.

An 85 per cent of humidity was observed in the capital at 6:00am on Tuesday.

The sun rises at 5:26am on Wednesday.
