Four people, including a child, were injured as two crude bombs exploded in front of a polling station at Hazaribagh Battala in the capital on Sunday.

The injured were identified as Amir Hossain, 60, Badal Ahmed, 50, his son Tanvir Ahmed, 8, and Maksuda Begum, 50, reports UNB.

Witnesses said miscreants exploded two crude bombs in front of Battala Jamia Anwarul Uloom Madrasa at around 11:30am, leaving the four people injured.

The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the police outpost at the hospital.

However, the victims sustained minor injuries and now they are out of danger, he said.

Voting cancelled at centre in N'ganj

Voting was cancelled at a polling centre in Nayaranganj’s Araihazar upazila following a clash between the activists of the Awami League and the Jatiya Party candidates that left at least 15 injured on Sunday.

According to our Narayanganj correspondent, an armed clash broke out between Awami League and the Jatiya Party supporters at Ramchandradi Government Primary School around noon. Voting was cancelled following the clash,

District Superintendent of Police Golam Mostafa Rasel said that several people were injured after a clash at the centre and voting was cancelled as a result.

Some 15 people were injured, including one presiding officer working at the centre and two police personnel. Among the injured, two were shot when police fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

Police arrested 13 people in the incident, including Jatiya Party candidate’s younger brother Jahangir Sikder Jhoton, according to the SP.

Meanwhile, Jatiya Party nominated candidate for Nayaranganj-2 Alamgir Sikder Loton announced a boycott of the polls.

Jatiya Party nominated candidate for Nayaranganj-2 Alamgir Sikder Loton alleged that his agents were beaten up and thrown out from various polling centres by boat symbol candidate’s agents.

However, the AL-nominated candidate Nazrul Islam Babu could not be reached over the phone for a statement in this regard.

Earlier, a similar clash occurred at the Sadasdi Multipurpose High School centre. Later, voting at this centre was suspended. Later, voting resumed after the situation normalised.

4 arrested in Barishal

Four people were arrested while trying to cast fake votes at a polling station in Barishal-5 constituency on Sunday. 

The attempt to cast the fake votes was made at Shaheed Arjumoni centre under Barishal City Corporation at around 1:30pm. 

Sajal Kumar Biswas, presiding officer of the polling station, confirmed the matter saying that four teenagers were standing in a queue to cast fake votes.

Law enforcers challenged them and then arrested them, he said, adding that they were handed over to the election officer for taking action in this regard.

A total of six candidates are contesting the polls in Barishal-5 constituency with a strong fight between Awami League and independent candidates Jahid Faruk Shamim and Salauddin Ripon, respectively with the boat and truck electoral symbols.

AL supporter found dead in Cumilla

A supporter of Awami League-candidate for Cumilla-4 Razee Mohammad Fakhrul was found dead near a polling centre at Kasharikhola in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Noab Ali, 60, son of Abdi Mia of Kasharikhola village, reports UNB.

Jewel Rana, son of Noab Ali, said Noab was talking to his uncle Selim after casting his vote at Kasharikhola Government Primary School polling stations in the morning.

At one stage, a supporter of independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad appeared there and an altercation ensued between them over the polls.

Later, the supporter of the independent candidate rolled a scarf around Noab’s neck and pushed him to the ground at around 10am , leaving him injured.

He was taken to Debidwar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Nayan Mia, officer-in-charge of Debidwar Police Station, said there were no injury marks on the body of Noab and it is not confirmed if it is election-related killing.

4 jailed for obstructing voters in Meherpur

Four supporters of Awami League candidate for Meherpur-1 constituency Farhad Hossain were jailed for different periods on charge of obstructing voters outside the polling station on Sunday.

A mobile court led by an executive magistrate sentenced three supporters of the boat candidate to seven days in jail for barring voters from going to Kalaidanga polling station under Baradi union of Sadar upazila, reports UNB.

Another court also jailed a boat supporter for one month for clashing with supporters of independent candidate Prof Abdul Mannan outside of Kathalpota centre in Mujibnagar upazila.

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain and former lawmaker Prof Mannan are racing with boat and truck symbols respectively in the constituency.

Voting cancelled at centres in Narsingdi

Balloting at a polling station under Narsingdi-3 constituency in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi district was cancelled on Sunday afternoon over allegations of stuffing ballots and attacking the presiding officer.

Dr Badiul Alam, deputy commissioner and returning officer, said a group of outsiders stormed into the Dulalpur Fazil Madrasa around 1:45pm and attacked the presiding officers and tried to stuff ballots.

Later, the voting at the centre was cancelled.

Earlier, voting at a polling centre in Narsingdi-4 constituency (Monohardi-Belabo) has been cancelled due to allegations of irregularities.

Voting at Ibrahimpur Government Primary School in Sallabad union of Belabo upazila was cancelled at 8:40am, shortly after voting began today, said District Returning Officer Dr Badiul Alam.

The returning officer stated that the voting was cancelled due to allegations of ballot-stuffing. However, the exact number of stuffed ballots could not be immediately confirmed.
