An 8-year-old was killed after being run over by a truck in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Tahmid Sarkar, son of Shamim Sarkar from Mahadipur village in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur.
Mamunur Rashid, sub-inspector of Birampur Police Station, said Tahmid had recently arrived at his grandfather's house in Birampur with his mother following the demise of his grandfather a few days ago.
Tahmid woke up this morning, he could not find his mother and went out to look for her. At the time, a dog chased him. In panic, he started running and was run over by a truck at the College Bazar area of Birampur.
The truck involved in the accident has been seized, said the SI.
Legal procedures are underway, and efforts are being made to hand over Tahmid's body following due process, he added.
