A part of a launching girder of the under-construction Elevated Expressway of the Bus Rapid Transit project collapsed near the capital's Airport Road Sunday morning, injuring four engineers and construction workers, two of whom are Chinese citizens.
BRT engineer Abdur Rahman confirmed the matter to the media.
The launching girder, a special type of gantry crane used for bridge construction, of the BRT structure Near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka collapsed at about 10.30am, he said, adding that four people were injured as a result as installation work was going on in the area at that time.
Akbar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Airport police station, said a girder of the Elevated Expressway suddenly collapsed on some workers in the morning, causing the injuries.
On information, a fire service team rushed to the spot and took the injured persons to Kurmitola Hospital.
However, the identities of the victims could not be known yet.
