A Dhaka court on Saturday (August 15) sent Shamsul Islam, a constable of Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), to jail after 1-day remand in a case filed over possession of 740 pieces of yaba tablets.
Metropolitan Magistrate Kanak Barua passed the order after Md Towabul Islam, Sub-Inspector of Pallabi Police Station, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced the accused before the court.
Earlier, the IO said that the arrestee admitted his involvement in possessing the narcotics, therefore, should be sent to jail until the probe is completed.
However, no lawyer was present in favour of the accused before the court.
On August 12, Pallabi police arrested Shamsul in the capital. Later, a case was filed against him with Pallabi Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
On 13 August, a court placed him on one day remand in that case.
