He said the members of the Coast Guard remain prepared in the coastal belts to protect the places of payers, life and livelihoods of the people alongside checking any kind of subversive acts ahead of the Durga Puja, going to start on October 9 and end on October 13.

Of the 299 pavilions of the Durga Puja in the coastal belts, Dhaka Zone has been entrusted with ensuring the overall security of 37 pavilions, East Zone (Chattogram) 50 pavilions, West Zone (Mongla) 130 pavilions and South Zone (Bhola) 82, he said.

Apart from the measures, Salman said they have been conducting awareness campaigns across the coastal belts against getting on the vessels without knowing how to swim and boarding on jam-packed vessels during the immersion of the idols.

He said they have also kept ready a special team of divers for quick rescue of the victims in case of any incident of boat capsize.
