A high-power committee formed by finance division has asked Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) to provide information on 25 state-run jute mills that were shut recently within 3 working days.

The committee in a letter on Wednesday (July 8) to BJMC chairman sought information about retried and working staff of its recently closed-down 25 mills. It also asked to provide information on the mills’ assets, liabilities and bank balances. Furthermore, it sought audit reports and bank statements of the mills.

BJMC will have to submit the asked information within three working days.

Additional secretary and chairman of BJMC Md Abdul Rouf said, it will not be possible to calculate the amount of benefits of the workers within such a short time.

On July 8, the government formed a 5-member committee to ensure salaries, allowances and dues of staffs and workers of the 25 jute mills under BJMC that were closed.

A week earlier, Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina made the decision to shut production of 25 state-run Jute mills operated by the BJMC after a meeting at Ganabhaban.
