Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has stressed the need to stay alert about evil communal forces as they usually try to raise their ugly heads ahead of the national election.

“Though the communal forces were controlled with our collective efforts, they are yet to be uprooted. We have to stay alert about them,” he said.

The information minister came up with remarks while speaking at a programme after inaugurating the Mahalaya festival of the Hindu community on Saturday at Banani Field in Dhaka.

“Communal forces are still active in the country. They engage in communal provocations from time to time for their vested interests,” he said.

Following the government’s step to ensure security during Durga Puja, the number of Puja mandaps is increasing every year, he said.

Hindus across Bangladesh are celebrating Mahalaya, the auspicious occasion that heralds the advent of Goddess Durga on Saturday.
