Compensating Russel by Green Line Paribahan: HC defers verdict delivery date

The High Court (HC) has deferred delivery of judgement on the rule over the compensation to Russel Sarker till Thursday (October 1). Russel lost his leg after a bus of Green Line Paribahan ran him over in April 2018.

A High Court bench comprising of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader on Tuesday fixed the date of judgement in the compensation case.

Earlier on September 23, the HC fixed September 29 for delivering its verdict on the Rule over compensating Russel Sarker, who lost his leg to reckless driving of a Green Line Paribahan bus.

The same HC bench fixed the date as it concluded hearing on the rule on March 5 this year.

Earlier on May 13, 2018, Umme Kulsum Smrity a lawyer of the Supreme Court filed a Writ Petition before the HC seeking necessary order to compensate Russel and stop reckless driving.

It may be mentioned that Russel Sarkar, driver of a private car lost his leg on April 28, 2018, after a luxury coach of Green Line Paribahan hit the static car from behind on the ramp of Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar. Russell stepped out of the car to assess the damage inflicted by the bus. When he signalled the bus to stop, bus driver Kabir Hossain, in an act that has drawn outrage for its sheer idiocy and callous disregard for a fellow human being, instead drove over Russell and fled the scene.

Being informed, the police detained the bus along with the driver near the Jatiya Press Club.
Russell’s left leg was amputated from the thigh in consequence.
