Compensation case hearing against facebook.com.bd on Dec 14

A Dhaka court has fixed December 14 as the new date of hearing against facebook.com.bd in a case filed by Facebook authorities seeking compensation of around $50,000.

Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury fixed the new date due to Facebook’s lawyer Barrister Moksadul Islam was unable to attend the hearing on Tuesday (December 1).

Earlier on November 22, authorities of social media giant Facebook filed a lawsuit in the lower court of Bangladesh against facebook.com.bd seeking compensation of the said amount for opening a website bearing its name.

Barrister Moksadul Islam was appointed by Facebook authorities to fight the lawsuit.

Facebook authorities claimed that they had sent multiple legal notices to facebook.com.bd asking it to shut down their website, but it was not closed.

Later, Barrister Moksadul Islam said Facebook authorities already provided him with relevant documents and they would move to the court to seek a ban on the operation of the website.

A1 Software Limited, a Bangladeshi company, opened a new domain using the same name as Facebook. Now, they want to sell this domain at $6 million.
