The first meeting of the Constitution Reform Commission, which was formed by the Interim government to reform the constitution, was held on a virtual platform on Sunday afternoon.
In the virtual meeting, the commission members Professor Sumaiya Khayer, Barrister Imran Siddique, Professor Mohammad Ikramul Huq, Barrister M Moyeen Al Ferozi, Feroz Ahmed, M Mustain Billah and Mahfuz Alam took part with commission chief Professor Ali Reaz in the chair.
Commission member Dr Sharif Bhuiyan could not participate in the meeting as he is on a tour, according to a release issued on Sunday night, reports BSS.
At the outset of the meeting, the commission adopted an obituary motion recalling the sacrifices of all the martyrs, injured and tortured in the great war of liberation, different democratic struggles after the independence and during the reign of fascism in the last fifteen years with deep respect, added the release which was posted at the Facebook account of commission chief Prof. Ali Reaz.
Recalling the anti-discrimination student movement, and the sacrifices of the martyrs in the student-people uprising, the commission expressed deep shock and said “Their sacrifices and bravery will remain inexhaustible in the history of Bangladesh.”
The commission also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the deceased and conveyed deep sympathy to their bereaved family members.
The commission also wished for quick recovery of the injured of the historical mass uprising.
The commission’s working scope and procedure were also discussed in the meeting.
An email account and a website will also be opened soon to make correspondence with the commission, the release further added.
It is underway to establish the commission’s office in the Sangsad Bhaban area on behalf of the government.
The next meeting of the commission will be held on October 21 at the commission office here, the meeting decided.
