Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday claimed that the government was putting highest priority on upholding the rights of consumers.

The rights of consumers can be guaranteed through raising awareness while various initiatives are being implemented to make them aware, he said at a virtual programme organised by the Consumers Association of Bangladesh.

Mentioning that CAB is playing a crucial role to ensure consumers’ rights, Tipu called on all concerned to work sincerely to make the consumers more aware of their rights, said a press release.

Highlighting the government’s initiatives on consumers rights, he said drives have been strengthened in market by setting up the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.

He said the Bangladesh Competition Commission was formed to stop monopoly business and ensure competition in trade and commerce.

The minister said the incumbent business-friendly government has taken all possible steps to ensure the supply of the country's essential commodities, fair prices and adequate stocks.

Due to the strict measures taken by the government during the Covid pandemic, the stock, supply, and price of all commodities remain normal, he added.
