10 guards at Dhaka Central Jail have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. These cases were confirmed after all the samples being tested more than once in the past few days.

Jailer Mahbubur Islam confirmed the matter, saying all of the 10 infected prison guards used to stay at the old central jail in Bakshibazar, Old Dhaka. They were responsible for taking ill prisoners to different hospitals for treatment.

The guards are currently undergoing treatment at Jinjira 20-bed Hospital, Mugda Medical Hospital and another hospital in Mirpur.

The jailer said the first prison guard of the central jail tested positive of Covid-19 a few days ago. Several others, who came in contact with him were then put in home quarantine and samples from them were sent to Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for coronavirus test, which came positive.

However, no one at the new jail at Keraniganj is infected yet, jailer Mahbubur Islam added.
