Coronavirus: 17 more die, 978 test positive

Covid-19 has claimed 17 more lives and infected 978 more people in 24 hours across the country until Wednesday morning.

The total number of deaths rose to 7,687 since the first case was reported in the country on March 8.

With the new infections, the country’s caseload stood at 518,898, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

So far, 3,302,429 tests, including 15,689 new ones, have been carried out. The overall infection rate now stands at 15.71 % and the death rate at 1.48.

However, 463,480 patients – 89.32% – have so far recovered.

Bangladesh is seeing 3,046.85 infections, 2,721.45 recoveries and 45.14 deaths per million.

The country’s infection number reached the 5,00000-mark on December 20. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 7,000 on December 12.

The government has been urging people to follow health safety measures. It has also adopted a “no mask, no service” policy.
