Two more people died of Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 170. Besides, 571 more people tested positive which makes 8231 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Friday.
She said one of the deceased was male and the other female. Of them, one was from Dhaka and the other from outside the capital, one was over 60 years old and the other deceased belonged to the 51 to 60-year age group.
With 14 new recoveries in the last 24 hours as of Friday, a total of 174 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 5,958 samples were collected and 5,573 were tested in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 233,388 as of Friday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
So far, 3,256,846 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Of them, 2,031,302 are currently being treated and 50,944 of them are in serious or critical condition, says worldometer.
So far, 1,014,753 people have recovered.
