21 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Tuesday, taking the death toll to 370. Besides, 1,251 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 25,121 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 9,091 samples were collected and 8,449 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 193,645 samples have been tested in the country.
With 408 new recoveries over the last 24 hours, a total of 4,993 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
The 21 deceased belonged to the following age groups: one was aged between 11-20 years, two were between 21-30, two between 31-40, five between 41-50, another five between 51-60, four between 61-70, and two between 71-80.
13 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 3 died at home. The remaining 5 were already dead when brought to hospitals.
Under division-wise categorisation, 14 hailed from the Dhaka division, 4 from Chittagong, 1 Mymensingh, 1 from Khulna, and 1 from the Barishal division.
Out of the 21 deaths, 7 were reportedly from the capital.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 318,481 as of Tuesday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 4,801,943 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 2,665,095 infected patients, 2,620,328 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 44,767 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 1,786,875 people have recovered.
