Bangladesh on Sunday reported 32 deaths and 3,141 new positive cases for novel coronavirus over the last 24 hours. The latest figures take the death toll to 1,171 and the total number of infections to 87,520.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Sunday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 14,690 samples were collected and 14,505 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 501,465 samples have been tested in the country.
With 903 new recoveries, a total of 18,730 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 27 were males and seven females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 21-30, one between 31-40, six were between 41-50, ten between 51-60, nine between 61-70 years, two between 71-80 and three were between 81-90 years.
Under division-wise categorization, 16 hailed from the Dhaka division, 11 from Chattogram, two from Sylhet and one each from Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions.
20 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 11 died at home. The remaining one was already dead when brought to hospitals.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 429,666 as of Sunday morning, according to the data provided by the Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 7,764,977 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,392,743 infected patients, 3,338,661 are in mild condition, which is 98 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,082 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 3,693,293 people have recovered.
