33 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Wednesday, taking the death toll to 2,457.

Besides, 3,533 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 193,590 confirmed cases in total. 

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Wednesday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 14,308 samples were collected and 14,002 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 980,402 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 1,796 new recoveries, a total of 105,023 patients recovered from coronavirus till date. 

The deceased, of whom 27 were males and six females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 01-10 years, three were between 31-40, five between 41-50 years, 10 between 51-60 years, seven between 61-70, five between 71-80 and two were between 81-90 years.
 
Under division-wise categorisation, 16 hailed from the Dhaka division, seven from Chattogram, five from Khulna, three from Rangpur and two were from the Rajshahi division.
 
27 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas six died at home. 
 
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 577,843 as of Wednesday morning, according to the data by the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 13,284,292 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 5,029,011 infected patients, 4,969,43 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 59,579 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 7,373,782 people have recovered.
