37 patients died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours as of Sunday, taking the death toll to 2,618. Besides, 2,459 more people tested positive for the virus, making 204,525 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Sunday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 10,935 samples were collected and 10,625 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,028,299 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 1,546 new recoveries, a total of 111,642 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 29 were males and eight females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 21-30 years, one between 31-40, three between 41-50 years, six between 51-60 years, 20 between 61-70, four between 71-80, one between 81-90 and another one was between 91-100 years of age.

Under division-wise categorisation, 15 hailed from the Dhaka division, seven from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, two from Sylhet, eight from Chattogram and one each from Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions.

32 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas five died at home.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 601,213 as of Sunday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 14,241,343 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 5,207,669 infected patients, 5,147,756 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 59,913 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 7,992,126 people have recovered.
