38 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Monday, taking the death toll to 1,209. Besides, 3,099 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 90,619 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 15,733 samples were collected and 15,038 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 516,503 samples have been tested in the country.
A total of 34,027 patients recovered from coronavirus to date, she said.
The deceased, of whom 32 were males and six females, belonged to the following age groups: three were between 21-30, three between 31-40, seven were between 41-50, five between 51-60 years, 15 between 61-70 years and five were between 71-80 years.
Under division-wise categorization, 18 hailed from the Dhaka division, 12 from Chattogram, six from Sylhet and one each from Barishal and Rangpur divisions.
25 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 11 died at home. The remaining two were already dead when brought to hospitals.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 432,922 as of Monday morning, according to the data provided by the Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 7,893,700 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,445,649 infected patients, 3,391,527 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,122 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 3,766,886 people have recovered.
