39 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Sunday, taking the death toll to 1,464. Besides, 3,531 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 112,306 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Sunday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 15,710 samples were collected and 15,585 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 612,164 samples have been tested in the country.
With 1,084 new recoveries, a total of 45,077 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 39 were males and four females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 0-10 years, one between 21-30, six between 31-40 years, 12 were between 41-50 years, 12 were between 51-60, four between 61-70, two between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, 16 hailed from the Dhaka division, 11 from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, four each from Khulna and Barishal and one each from Rangpur and Sylhet divisions.
33 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while six died at home.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 463,999 as of Sunday morning, according to the data by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 8,768,285 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,709,527 infected patients, 3,655,024 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,503 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.
So far, 4,347,162 people have recovered.
