48 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Thursday, taking the death toll to 3,083.

Besides, 2,695 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 234,889 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Thursday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 12,667 samples were collected and 12,937 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,164,195 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 2,668 new recoveries, a total of 132,960 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 36 were males and 12 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 31-40 years, four between 41-50 years, 14 between 51-60 years, 12 between 61-70 years, 11 between 71-80, five between 81-90 and one was between 91-100 years of age.

Under division-wise categorisation, 17 hailed from the Dhaka division, 12 from Chattogram, five each from Khulna and Sylhet, three from Rajshahi and two each from Barishal, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions.

41 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas seven died at home.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 665,581 as of Thursday morning, according to the data by the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

Moreover, 16,957,763 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed around the world.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 5,818,930 infected patients, 5,752,540 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 66,390 (of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 10,696,797 people have recovered.
