50 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Tuesday, taking the death toll to 3,234.
Besides, 1,918 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 244,020 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 8,123 samples were collected and 7,712 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,201,256 samples have been tested in the country.
With 1,955 new recoveries, a total of 139,860 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 44 were males and six females, belonged to the following age groups: three were between 31-40 years, six between 41-50 years, 17 between 51-60 years, 18 between 61-70, five were between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years of age.
Under division-wise categorisation, 29 hailed from the Dhaka division, five each from Chattogram and Rajshahi, four each from Khulna and Rangpur and one each from Mymensingh, Barishal and Sylhet divisions.
45 of the deceased breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals and five died at home.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 693,968 as of Tuesday morning, according to the data provided by the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.
Moreover, 18,294,793 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed around the world.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
