Coronavirus: 67 fresh cases confirmed in 3 dists

A total of 67 people were diagnosed with coronavirus in Faridpur, Munshiganj and Dhaka’s Keraniganj upazila on Sunday.

The patients will be counted in the coordinated list for all districts scheduled to be announced on Monday afternoon in the daily briefing by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The Keraniganj upazila confirmed 17 more cases from coronavirus on the day, taking the total number of Covid-19 patients there to 210.

Dr Mir Mobarak Hossain, the upazila health and family planning officer, confirmed the development around 9pm, saying eight members of Rab and Police were among the newly identified patients.

Md Siddiqur Rahman, the civil surgeon of Faridpur, said the 49-year-old physician is a professor of the Department of Radiology and Imaging at the medical college.

He has been suffering from fever for the last eight days, he said, adding that he will be treated at his residence.

In Munshiganj, a total of 49 individuals, including seven staffers of the civil surgeon’s office, were found positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

Civil Surgeon Dr Abul Kalam Azad disclosed the figures, saying the total number of covid-19 patients in the district reached 166 with the latest ones.

Their samples were tested at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), he added.

According to the DGHS, the country recorded 9,455 cases and 177 deaths until Sunday morning.

When it comes to global context, the virus infected 3,426,711 people of 187 countries and claimed 243,795 lives as of Sunday.

The coronavirus began snatching human lives from Wuhan, the capital of the Hubei province in China, and gradually spread across the globe.
