38 patients died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours as of Thursday, taking the death toll to 1,926. Besides, the total number of infections crossed the 150,000-mark with 4,019 more people being tested positive, making 153,277 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Thursday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 17,947 samples were collected and 18,362 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 802,697 samples have been tested in the country.
With 4,334 new recoveries, a total of 66,442 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 32 were males and six females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 21-30 years, two between 31-40, two between 41-50 years, 16 were between 51-60, eight between 61-70, seven between 71-80 and two were between 81-90 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, 11 hailed from the Dhaka division, 12 from Chattogram, five each from Khulna and Rajshahi, one from Rangpur, and two each from Sylhet and Barishal divisions.
33 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while five died at home.
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection stood at 515,542 as of Thursday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 10,664,433 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 4,344,974 infected patients, 4,287,015 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 57,959 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.
So far, 5,451,472 people have recovered.
