Coronavirus: Iskcon temple locked down as 36 inmates get infected

36 people, including priests, at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) temple in city’s Swamibagh area were infected with the novel coronavirus.

The temple was locked down on Saturday morning after the inmates tested positive for coronavirus on Friday night, confirmed Shah Iftekharul Islam, deputy commissioner of Wari Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Saju Mia, officer-in-charge of Gendaria Police Station, said the temple authorities had barred anyone from entering the temple for long.

The priests used to stay inside all the time.

An assistant sub-inspector of police, who was in charge of the security at the temple, also tested positive for coronavirus, he added.
