45 patients died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours as of Monday, taking the death toll to 1,783. Besides, 4,014 more people tested positive, which is the highest single-day record of new infections in the country, making 141,801 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 14,413 samples were collected and 17,837 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 748,034 samples have been tested in the country.
With 2,053 new recoveries, a total of 57,780 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 36 were males and nine females, belonged to the following age groups: two were between 21-30, threee between 31-40, seven were between 41-50, 11 aged between 51-60, 14 between 61-70, six between 71-80, one between 81-90 and one was between 90-100 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, 22 hailed from the Dhaka division, 10 from Chattogram, one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh, five from Khulna, and three each from Sylhet and Rangpur Divisions.
30 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while four died at home. The remaining one already dead when brought to hospital.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection crossed the half-a-million mark, reaching 501,233 as of Monday morning, according to the data by the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 10,115,912 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 4,185,953 infected patients, 4,128,283 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 57,670 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.
So far, 5,123,425 people have recovered.
