Coronavirus: Single-day infections cross 600 with 8 new deaths

A record 641 more people tested positive for novel coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, which makes 7,103 confirmed cases in total. Besides, eight more people died, taking the toll to 163.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Wednesday.

Six among eight of the deceased were male and two was female, she said, adding that six were from dhaka.

Of the eight deceased, four were aged over 60 years, two were between 50 to 60 years and the other two belonged to the 31 to 40-year age group.

With 11 new recoveries in the last 24 hours as of Wednesday, a total of 150 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 4,706 samples were collected in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 217,168 as of Wednesday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 3,116,398 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Of them, 1,964,375 are currently being treated and 56,965 of them are in serious or critical condition, says worldometer.

So far, 928,712 people have recovered.
