Coronavirus: Wari to be put under lockdown

Marking Wari area in the capital as ‘Red Zone’, Dhaka South City Corporation has decided to put it under lockdown for 21 days to contain the transmission of coronavirus.

The restriction will be effective from 8am on July 4 which will be in force till July 25.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said this in a briefing after a meeting at Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.

He said that the 21-day lockdown will be implemented till July 25. A control centre will be set up there, booths will be set up for sample collection and there will be isolation system.

"Everything will be closed there," the mayor said.

However, pharmacies and grocery stores will remain open.

Arrangements will be made to supply daily necessities in coordination with the E-Commerce Association, said Taposh.

Fazle Noor Taposh further said that the health directorate has specifically identified a few roads of the Wari zone.

These are- Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway (Joy Kali Mandir to Baldha Garden), Lalmini Road, Hore Road, War Road, Rankin Street, and Nouab Road.

Earlier, the Dhaka North City Corporation put West Rajabazar under lockdown from June 10 to contain the spread of coronavirus.
