The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday detained Mohammad Monir Hossain, deputy manager of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) in Shariatpur, while taking Tk 50,000 bribe.

A team of the anti-graft body led by its Assistant Director Akhtaruzzaman detained Monir Hossain at his office in Shariatpur, said ACC Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain.

The ACC secretary said Monir Hossain demanded a bribe of Tk 125,000 to send an application regarding changing the name and sub-sector of Dhali Mineral Water to the office of the BSCIC Chairman.

The ACC team detained Monir while receiving a Tk 50,000 bribe from Dhali Mineral Water.

ACC sources said after the cancellation of plot No A-07 of Messrs Dhali Mineral Water of BSCIC industrial city in Shariatpur, an application was made by Dhali Mineral Water to the BSCIC Chairman to withdraw the plot cancellation order as per the BSCIC plot allocation policy 2010.

However, BSCIC Deputy Manager Monir Hossain unethically demanded a bribe of Tk 1,25,000 for sending the application to the BSCIC chairman.
