The High Court has granted interim bail to Kutub Uddin Ahmed, a former administrative officer of the land ministry, who was sentenced to five years in prison in a graft case.

A High Court bench of Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman granted him bail for six months.

During the hearing, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan and the defendant's lawyer Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun were present.

On April 8, 2018, the ACC arrested Kutub Uddin, the then administrative officer of the land ministry.

According to the case, Ahmed using his influences strategically released Rajuk's property through a gazette notification. He showed one Nazmul Islam Sayeed as a fake land surveyor and three including his father-in-law Abdul Jalil Mridha as buyers.

Although the land was purchased in the name of his father-in-law, it had been occupied by Ahmed from the beginning.

ACC filed a case against him on April 8, 2018, with Gulshan Police Station.

Nazmul Islam Sayeed was also made an accused in the case.

On April 12 of the same year, the land ministry issued an order dismissing Ahmed.

Later, he made an appeal against the five-year sentence which is still pending in the High Court.
