A Dhaka court on Tuesday accepted a charge-sheet against suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid in a corruption case filed over amassing 3.08 crore taka beyond known sources of income.
Judge KM Imrul Kayes of the Dhaka Senior Special Judge's Court accepted the charge-sheet.
The court has transferred the case to Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 and also fixed September 22 for the hearing on charge framing against Bazlur Rashid.
On 26 August, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) pressed charges against Bazlur Rashid in the case.
ACC deputy director Md Nasir Uddin who is also the investigation officer (IO) of the case submitted the charge-sheet to the Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka.
Bazlur Rashid was arrested on October 20, 2019, in the case filed with ACC's Integrated District Office-1 in Dhaka.
The home ministry suspended him from service the following day.
According to the case statement, Bazlur Rashid signed a contract with a real estate company in 2018 to buy a flat in the capital's Siddheshwari area for 3.09 crore taka.
From April 20, 2018 to June 7, 2018 he paid 3.08 crore taka in cash and cheque; but during the ACC officials' interrogation, he failed to show any legal source of the money.
Bazlur Rashid joined the service as a jail super in 1993. Later, he was promoted to DIG prisons in 2013.
