A Dhaka tribunal on Sunday took cognisance of the charges against Md Majnu, the lone accused in a case filed over rape of a Dhaka University (DU) student in capital’s Kurmitola early January.
Judge Begum Mosammat Quamrunnahar of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 passed the order in presence of the accused.
The tribunal fixed August 26 for the hearing of charge framing against him.
On March 16, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) submitted the charge-sheet against Majnu.
The DU student was raped on the evening of January 5 when she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to Shewra Bazar Railgate. The victim's father filed a case with Cantonment Police Station the next day, accusing unnamed people.
Majnu gave a confessional statement to a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate on January 16 after being arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Shewra Bazar area on January 8.
