A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered to freeze eight bank accounts of Sayeed Khokon, former mayor of the Dhaka South City Corporation, and three of his family members as part of an investigation into allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

Dhaka Senior Special Judge KM Emrul Kayesh passed the order after the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) Deputy Director Jalal Uddin Ahmed, also the head of the enquiry team, sought permission for a freeze on the bank accounts.

ACC Court Inspector (ICT) Aminul Islam confirmed the matter on Monday.

Of the bank accounts ordered to be frozen, three belong to Khokon's business companies, one belongs to his mother Fatema Hanif and two each belong to his wife Farhana Alam and his sister Shahana Hanif, Aminul Islam said.
