A court on Tuesday sentenced 11 persons to life-term imprisonment in the murder case of Khorshed Alam Miron, a member of Dattapara Union Parishad under Sadar upazila of the district, in 2019.
Judge of Lakshmipur District and Sessions Judge Court Md Rahibul Islam pronounced the verdict this afternoon.
The court also fined them Taka 20,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer one year more in jail, Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Jasim Uddin said.
Among the accused, CNG Milon and Rubel were present in the court when the verdict was announced. The rest are absconding. The court acquitted 11 people from the case as the charges were not proved against them.
The convicts are - Jamal Hossain alias Jamal son of Md. Noor Nabi of village Nasirpur, Md. Jasim Uddin, son of late Mansur Ahmad of village Charchamita, Md. Shah Jahan, son of Ali Ahma of village Dattapara, Md. Faisal Khan Joy, son of Hannan Khan of village Syedpur, Md. Milon alias CNG Milon, son of Abdul Quddus of village Bashikpur, Al Amin, son of Anwar Ulya of village Kashipur Badsha Mia Baparibari, Barkot, son of late Sultan Ahmad of village Birahimpur, Nishan, son of Sahab Uddin of village Bara Rashidpur Lokman, son of Aji Ulya of village Charchamita, Rubel, son of Bellal of village Dattapara and Suman, son of late Noor Mohammad of village Charchamita. All the accused are residents of Sadar upazila of the district.
According to the details of the case, on the night of September 28, 2019, Miron was sitting at Liton's grocery shop in East Aladapur village of Hazirpara area. At that time, some gunmen entered the shop and fired indiscriminately at Miron. He died on the spot.
He was a member of Dattapara Union Parishad and President of Union Swechasebak League, an associate body and the volunteer wing of the Bangladesh Awami League.
September 30, 2019, Miron's wife, Tahmina Akhtar, filed a case against unknown terrorists at Chandraganj police station.
On March 24, 2021, the investigating officer of the case filed a charge sheet against 25 people in the court.
Meanwhile, Khorshed Alam, Shahadat Prakash Kala Shahadat and Ilyas Kobra were acquitted of the case as they were killed by terrorists.
After examining the record and witnesses, the court found 11 guilty.
