BNP leaders Tuku, Nayan on 4-day remand in police attack case

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed seven BNP men, including Jubo Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Vice-President Nurul Islam Nayan, on four-day remand each in a case lodged for allegedly attacking policemen in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order as police produced the seven accused before the court, and pleaded to place them on seven-day remand each in the case lodged with the capital's Paltan Police Station.

The other remanded men are Tuku's Personal Assistant Mokhlesur Rahman, Mosharraf Hossain Khokon, Joj Miah, Farid Uddin Mona and Abdullah. Police had arrested the seven on Saturday.

The case was filed with Paltan Police Station on May 26 this year against 30 people, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and 100-150 unnamed persons.

According to case documents, the accused men brought out a violent procession, holding wooden torches, bamboo sticks, woods, chanting anti-government indecent slogans, statements.

They allegedly vandalized vehicles and attacked policemen, injuring a constable and an Ansar member.
