The High Court (HC) on Thursday declared illegal the decision of Jatio Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) to remove 22 valiant Freedom Fighters (FFs) from the gazette.

A High Court division bench of Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain passed the order, declaring absolute a rule issued earlier in this regard.

According to the case documents, the names of the 22 valiant Freedom Fighters from Gobindaganj, Gaibandha, were included in the gazette in 2005 and were getting all the due benefits.

Advocate Toufik Enam Tipu, who moved the plea before the court, told the media, “...but Jamuka in 2016 remove the names of these valiant Freedom Fighters from the gazette, making them file a writ petition with the High Court.

“After holding a hearing on the matter, the High Court on April 7, 2016, issued the rule, asking authorities concerned to explain why the decision of removing names of a total of 24 Freedom Fighters, including the aforesaid 22, shall not be declared illegal.

“Today the court declared that rule absolute,”

The lawyer said as per Thursday’s order, Jamuka has no authority to cancel the gazette whatsoever. It is a matter of the government and the concerned ministry, he added.
