A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced Zahid Sarwar, former assistant vice-president of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), to 24 years and his wife Farhana Habib to seven years of imprisonment in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of embezzlement.
As the couple is absconding, Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 issued warrants against them following the verdict.
According to the case document, Sarwar and his wife forged bank cheques with fake signatures and embezzled around Tk 5.48 crore at different times from 2016 to 2018.
On December 10, 2019, ACC Assistant Director Shafi Ullah filed the case.
