A Dhaka Court on Monday granted 6-day remand each for ex-teacher of Brac University (BRACU) Asif Mahtab Utsha and Jahangirnagar University quota reform movement coordinator Arif Sohail in Setu Bhaban vandalism case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Moinul Islam granted the remand on Monday in a case filed by the Banani police for the attack and arson of Setu Bhavan amid the quota reform movement.

Last Saturday, the Detective Branch (DB) picked up Mahtab from his house in Uttara at around 1am. Meanwhile, Arif was picked up from his house in the Ambagan area, adjacent to Jahangirnagar University (JU), around 1am on Sunday.

Mahtab was relieved from his position of a part-time teacher at Brac University for criticising a story on gender-diverse populations in the seventh-grade history and social science textbook, and tearing the book while speaking at a discussion in mid-January this year.
