A court on Tuesday placed former civil aviation and tourism minister Lt Colonel (Retd) Faruk Khan on two-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of BNP activist Md Mokbul in the capital.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah passed the order as police produced Khan, also a presidium member of the Awami League, before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case, reports BSS.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in an overnight drive arrested Faruk Khan from his house in Dhaka cantonment area.

According to the case documents, BNP leaders and activists as part of their party programme on December 10, 2022, began to gather in the capital. Marking the programme, police and AL men created ruckus in front of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan on December 7.

They entered the BNP office and charged batons and opened fire at the BNP men, injuring Mokbul critically.

Mokbul later died from his injuries at the hospital. The case was filed on September 30, 2024.
