A court on Friday placed former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on seven-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Daffodil International University student Ramij Uddin Rup in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuddin Hossain passed the order as police produced the former minister before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand, reports BSS.
A team of the detective branch of police arrested Sadhan from the capital’s Bashundhara residential area on October 3.
According to the case documents, Rup, 21, was gunned down in the Karwan Bazar area on August 4 as he was taking part in anti-discrimination student movement.
Rup’s father AKM Rakibul Ahammed filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station against 223, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
