The High Court on Tuesday ordered authorities concerned to identify the areas in the country where air pollution is the highest and submit a plan to reduce this hazard.

A High Court division bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice SM Maniruzzaman passed the order after holding a primary hearing on a writ filed by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA).

The court also issued a rule in this regard.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan moved the writ for BELA, while Deputy Attorney General Samarendra Nath Biswas stood for the state.

The court in its order asked to install Continuous Air Monitoring Stations (CAMS) to monitor the quality of air and introduce an alarm system to protect citizens from polluted air.

The High Court asked the respondents to execute the directions and submit a report on this within four months.
