A court in Dhaka on Wednesday placed Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman on a three-day fresh remand in a case lodged with the capital's Jatrabari Police Station for his alleged involvement in militancy.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Nur passed the order, as police produced the Jamaat chief before the court, after the end of his seven-day remand in the case and pleaded for placing him on eight-day fresh remand.

Earlier on December 13, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury had placed him on a seven-day remand in the case.

A team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested the Jamaat chief from Dhaka’s Basundhara area on December 12.

Earlier, police arrested his son Dr Rafat Chowdhury, the alleged chief coordinator of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam’s Sylhet region, in this case.
