A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Publicity Affairs Secretary Adv Motiur Rahman Akand to jail in a case lodged over alleged subversive activities.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order as police produced Akand before the court on Wednesday and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of the probe in the case filed with Uttara West Police Station.

Adv Motiur Rahman Akand was detained from his Uttara Sector 14 house at around 11am and produced before the court this noon.

According to the case documents, Jamaat leaders and activists on October 11, 2022, blockaded the road in front of BNS Tower in Uttara Sector 7, demanding the release of their seven men. As police tried to clear the road, Jamaat men blasted two crude bombs and hurled brickbats, injuring a couple of policemen.

Later the police fired two rounds from a shotgun, dispersing the mob in the area. Police after that filed the case with Uttara West Police Station.
