The High Court has rejected the rule issued over a petition seeking the cancellation of a labour law violation case against four, including Grameen Telecom Chairman and Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.
As a result, there is no obstacle to continuing the case against him in the judicial court, the court said.
A High Court bench of Justice SM Kuddus Zaman and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order on Tuesday.
Lawyer of the defendant Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun told BSS that they will make a plea against this order to the Appellate Division.
On August 3, the Appellate Division assigned a new bench to hear the ruling asking it to settle down the rule hearing within two weeks.
On July 23, a High Court bench issued the rule asking the state to explain why the labour court order that framed charges against Dr Yunus and three others should not be scrapped, followed by an application submitted on May 19 by the noble laureate.
On June 6, charges were framed against the four.
Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Inspector Arifuzzaman filed the case against Dr Yunus, Grameen Telecom Managing Director Ashraful Hasan, and board directors Nurjahan Begum and Md Shahjahan on September 9, 2021, and the court had summoned the four to appear before it by October 12, 2021.
According to the case documents, a team of the DIFE went on an inspection of Grameen Telecom and found labour law violations, including not regularising 101 staff and not establishing a welfare fund for the labourers, among others.
