The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove videos of several Brahmanbaria lawyers’ misbehaviour with a judge inside the courtroom, from social networking sites.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order. The court also set February 14 for holding further hearings in this regard.

Supreme Court Bar Association President Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir and its Secretary Md Abdun Nur Dulal, senior advocates Mohammad Sayeed Ahmed Raja and Shah Manjurul Haque appeared for the accused lawyers.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin stood for the state.

The High Court on January 5, summoned three lawyers for chanting indecent slogans, hampering trial process and misbehaving with Judge Mohammad Faruk of Brahmanbaria Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1.

Brahmanbaria Bar Association President Adv Md Tanvir Ahmed Bhuiyan, secretary (admin) Adv Md Akkas Ali, and Adv Zubayer Islam are the three accused. The court had asked them to appear before it Tuesday, and submit their explanations.

Following that order, the three accused appeared before the court Tuesday. After the hearing, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin held a press briefing at his office, where he said the incident that took place in Brahmanbaria was totally unexpected.

The attorney general said, “I will talk to all the concerned parties and would take initiative to resolve the matter with the help of the Supreme Court Bar Association President. We, the lawyers, exist because of the court, so we have to show respect towards the court.

“Both the bar and bench have to be sensitive and caring. The court too has to work by making the lawyers understand. The incident of Brahmanbaria gives the wrong message and we have to ensure that justice-seekers don't suffer because of this.”
