Nadim murder case: SC stays bail of another accused

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday stayed till October 2 a High Court order granting bail to Moniruzzaman Monir, an accused in the case lodged over the murder of Jamalpur journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim of Appellate Division Chamber Judge Court passed the order after holding a hearing on a state plea filed against the High Court bail.

Assistant Attorney General Md Saiful Alam moved the plea before the court while Advocate Modhu Maloti Chowdhury stood for the accused.

The chamber judge court, on September 20, had stayed till November 20 the High Court order granting bail to the main accused in the case, expelled Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu.

Earlier on August 27, the lower court concerned scraped the bail pleas of six accused including Mahmudul Alam Babu.

Nadim, Jamalpur correspondent of online news portal banglanews24.com, was attacked on the night of June 14 in Bakshiganj and was brutally beaten by unidentified assailants. He died of his injuries on June 15 at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.

Nadim's widow Monira Begum filed the case on June 17 against 22 including Babu. His family alleged that he (Nadim) was receiving threats from Mahamudul Alam Babu for publishing reports of his corruption.
