Claiming Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh’s remark about a former chief justice as contempt of court a case was filed against him with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday.

A directive to summon the mayor Taposh for his derogatory remark was also sought in the case.

Advocate Shah Ahmed Badal, member secretary of ad hoc committee formed after an alleged one-sided election by the pro Awami League lawyers in the bar council election, filed the case at the concerned section of the Appellate Division.

On May 21 this year, Barrister Taposh at a meeting of the Bangabandhu Awami Lawyers Council in the capital said, ‘‘brought down a chief justice’’.

On the next day, daily ‘Dainik Manab Zamin’ reported published a story headlined ‘brought down a chief justice’.

On May 24, Barrister M Amir-ul Islam, one of the leading constitution writers, drew the attention of the Appellate Division about the speech of Taposh.

Replying to this, Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique said a decision will be taken after reading the news published in the newspaper carefully.

Plaintiff Shah Ahmed Badal said they filed the case against Taposh following inaction from the Appellate Division in this regard.
